Background
Pocket Queries on the geocaching website send details of the cache locations in a GPX file. Typically, I augment these data with locally generated GPX files which contain, for example, the solutions to puzzle caches. Although it's easy to make something which looks like a GPX file and which loads into the GPSr or Google Earth, the waypoints aren't recognized as Geocaches.
I found this mildly annoying, because the Oregon's geocaching mode seems more convenient than just selecting particular classes of waypoints. Happily the recipe below seems to fix the problem. Obviously YMMV!
The recipe
The following guidelines seem to help, but it's quite possible that some of these things aren't needed or that some elements listed below are needed!
- In every
<wpt>element you'll need a<groundspeak:cache>element, where the groundspeak namespace is bound to http://www.groundspeak.com/cache/1/0. - The
<wpt>'s<name>element should be at most seven characters long. It's usually the GC waypoint code, and longer names are silently truncated in the cache-list display. - The
<groundspeak:cache>element must have:- a unique numeric
idattribute; - a
availableattribute set to True; - a
archivedattribute set to False.
